The DARROW FOUNDATION supports wilderness canoeing programs and outdoor education for youth. The Foundation is guided by the belief that in the serenity and beauty of the wilderness groups of young people learn the essential values of stewardship, self-reliance and communal responsibility. They gain an enduring sense of the wonder of the natural world. The DARROW FOUNDATION thus sustains the wilderness ethic of Darrow Wilderness Canoe Camp, founded in 1957 by George and Janie Darrow. Since its founding, Darrow Camp has operated from “The Birches,” an island on West Grand Lake in Washington County, Maine. The Camp offers young people the rare experience of paddling in wood/canvas canoes through the remote waterways of Maine and eastern Canada. Guided and nurtured by highly trained leaders, campers travel in small groups, learning to live simply and in harmony with their natural surroundings. Please use this form to make a pledge of support for the work of the Darrow Foundation. (PDF file)
